The Bay Trail is a series of circular walking routes created by The Bay Hotel, starting and finishing in Robin Hood’s Bay. Designed to showcase the very best of the North Yorkshire coast and surrounding countryside, each route combines coastal paths, inland trails and some of the most scenic viewpoints in the area.
All three routes follow a similar core loop, gradually extending further out to create longer and more challenging walks. This means each route builds on the last, allowing walkers and runners to choose how far they want to go while experiencing the same varied and scenic terrain.
The routes are designed to take in as much of Fylingdales Parish as possible, combining coastal paths, sections of the Cinder Track, woodland trails, open moorland and rolling farmland. This creates a true cross-section of the North Yorkshire landscape, all starting and finishing at The Bay Hotel.

Bay Trail 10 – The Punchy Loop
A shorter, punchy version of the Bay Trail, following the core route with a focus on coastal paths and accessible terrain. Ideal for a half-day walk or a quicker outing while still experiencing the best of the coastline.
Bay Trail 15 – The Flagship Route
The full expression of the Bay Trail, extending beyond the core loop to include a wider mix of countryside, moorland and coastline. This is the standout route and a full day’s walk for those wanting the complete Robin Hood’s Bay experience.
Bay Trail 20 – The Challenge Route
The longest version of the Bay Trail, pushing further into the parish to create a more demanding route with additional distance and elevation. Designed for experienced walkers and runners looking for a full day’s challenge.
The Bay Trail is designed for both walkers and runners. Whether you're taking your time and enjoying the scenery or pushing for a fast time across the climbs and descents, each route offers a different kind of challenge.
For those looking to compete, a The Bay Trail leaderboard is coming soon, giving runners the chance to post times and take on the routes competitively. For those taking it at a steadier pace, the same routes offer some of the most enjoyable coastal walking in the area.
